Queen's University

A top Canadian university with an international reputation for excellence, Queen’s offers a range of programs that support biomedical research and the training of highly qualified personnel, including life/medical sciences, biology, computer science, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, physics, psychology, kinesiology and health sciences.

The University also offers Canada’s first and only specialized program in computational biology and medical informatics. The Biomedical Computing Program provides a broad scientific education along with an in-depth understanding of computing and how it can be used to accelerate health research, simulate patient behaviour and visualize complex biological models.Queen’s Biology Department has long been a centre of excellence in Plant Sciences. Researchers are currently employing state-of-the-art approaches (including gene cloning and genetic engineering) to answer many of today’s most pressing questions in plant science.

The Biosciences Complex at Queen’s boasts three chemical engineering labs, specialized laboratories for fermentation, bioprocessing research facilities, and a $2.5 million Phytotron facility featuring a research level greenhouse and 26 environmental growth chambers. The facility works with a private consortium of researchers developing commercial applications for plant discoveries.

In 1995, Queen’s created the highly successful Technology, Engineering and Management (TEAM) program which links fourth year students with industries seeking consulting resources. For the last 13 years TEAM has been providing participating companies with a unique opportunity to gain valuable business insights for a modest investment. Past industry partners have included DuPont, Shell, Nova Chemicals, GEM Canada Waste to Energy and KMW Energy.

Queen’s is also recognized for the quality of its medical-doctoral program, consistently ranking second in Maclean's University Rankings in this category.
